HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN: A Slightly More Difficult Song to Practice Open Position Chords and Sweep Picking

House of the Rising Sun is a super famous song with a long and mysterious history. It has been covered countless times and played in a wide array of genres. The most famous recording is the 1964 version performed by the Animals.

This song uses the Open Position (or CAGED) chords: Am, C, D, E7, and also the always trick F chord. The right hand sweep picking technique that is required also adds a degree of difficulty to the song, so I recommend this lesson for guitarists who feel more comfortable strumming and switching between open position chords.

To check out some easier tutorials or more in depth lessons on CAGED Chords check out the CAGED Chord Lesson Playlist. I feel this is one of those songs that just about every guitar player should know. I hope learn something new and more importantly enjoy the process of learning this classic tune!
